The term mommy makeover has been used over the past several years to describe a group of procedures that may be done to restore or enhance a women’s shape after having children. Because no two women are alike, the mommy makeover is tailored to each individual’s problem areas of concern. These procedures may be done in combination during one operation, or may be divided into several operations as needed to maximize safety, optimize results, or as needed for budgetary reasons.
Abdomen
The tummy is the most common area of concern in our post-pregnancy patients. Every woman’s body will respond differently to the stresses of pregnancy, but stretch marks and loose skin are exceedingly common and the most effective way of treating these issues is with a tummy tuck, which is also known as an abdominoplasty. It removes loose skin and excess fat, tightens the abdominal muscles, and makes an overall improvement in the contour of the front of the torso. It can be modified, as needed, to address each patient’s anatomy and goals.
Breast
Pregnancy can result in an increase in breast size, decrease in size (post-partum involution), and/or drooping of the breasts. A mommy makeover may include:
- Breast reduction – reduces the size of the breasts and lifts them.
- Breast lift – only lifts the breasts and keeps approximately the same size.
- Breast augmentation – insertion of breast implants to increase the size of the breasts and enhance their shape.
- Breast lift and augmentation are sometimes done together to make an overall improvement in the size and shape of the breasts.
Love Handles, Back, Thighs, and Other Problem Areas
Pregnancy may also result in altered proportions and many women will find that they have new problem areas after their children. In the areas where there’s good skin tone but too much fat, liposuction can be a very effective way of reshaping the body and improving a woman’s proportions.
